Garmap African Series 2009 - 2nd Edition
Garmap is pleased to announce the latest set of map updates Garmap Africa Series 2009 - 2nd Edition. These map updates are supplied on a double sided DVD one side being for PC users running Windows 2000, Windows XP or Vista; the other containing a data set for Mac users running OS X 10.4 or later.
The three versions of the Southern Africa map sets (the Streetmaps, Topo & Rec and the DEM products) are entirely new product builds and not just updates of the previous versions. This is as a result of the inclusion of the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) data into the map set, which is required to support the traffic subscription service when it becomes available in South Africa.

Please Note:
This DVD retail pack does not include any licences for the various map products. This DVD is ideal for those who are upgrading their present Garmap mapset (click here to open the New Map Purchase and the Map Upgrade pricing matrix in a new window) as well as for those who have recently purchased a Garmin GPS unit with the maps on a preloaded memory card and who now simply wish to load the same mapset onto a PC/Mac as well.
New Map purchasers (i.e. those who do not have any Garmap maps at present) can either purchase this DVD, and then pay the full price for the unlock key/licence via credit card online or purchase one of the full product DVD's that includes a licence.
Free Upgrades:
Users who purchased the previous map set, namely Garmap Africa Series 2009, or who purchased their Garmin GPS unit on or after 1 July 2009, will be eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version of the equivalent map. If a user does not qualify for a free upgrade, they will have the option of purchasing the selected products unlock code/licence online. The upgrade and online purchase processes are facilitated with the DVD and an Internet connection is required. Using the DVD during upgrade / purchase process will save the downloading of large amounts of data, as all relevant data is contained on the DVD.

GPS models & compatibility
The Garmap Africa series 2009 product set is compatible with all Garmin map-enabled GPS units with a memory capacity of at least 16MB. The functionality is dependant on the GPS device being used and users must note that not all the functions & features described are supported on all models. As an example, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) maps can only be displayed on devices that are DEM capable e.g. Oregon 300, nόvi 860 etc.
The map products labelled NON-NT are specifically for legacy map-capable Garmin units produced before 2006. There will be an insert showing these specific models included with each DVD. Click here to download a copy of the insert.
Limitations
Auto-routing and Places of Interest (POI) search capability are only available on auto-routing and search-capable Garmin GPS units.
Installation Instructions
Users will require an Internet connection and the DVD to do map upgrades. The DVD has been supplied with an auto-run sequence that will open a web browser and provide step-by-step installation & registration instructions. There are also Installation Instructions printed on the DVD cover.

SOUTHERN AFRICA STREETMAPS 2009 - TMC
Product Description:
This map set includes the routable tar and gravel road network detail for 10 countries in Southern Africa and now also includes Angola.
The included countries are as follows: Angola (AO), Botswana (BW), Lesotho (LS), Malawi (MW), Mozambique (MZ), Namibia (NA), South Africa (ZA), Swaziland (SZ), Zambia (ZM) & Zimbabwe (ZW).

The seamless routing between the different countries allows you to accurately plan and navigate to destinations within the Southern Africa region. Product Description:
This product successfully allows for the convergence of the serious outdoor enthusiast and the pavement pioneer. Detailed topographical and recreational information seamlessly overlays with the Southern Africa Streetmaps product providing a comprehensive Southern Africa map base for recreational planning and orientation. Topographic information includes 20m contours, rivers and forests for the ten Southern African countries and farm boundary data for South Africa and Namibia.

SOUTHERN AFRICA STREETMAPS 2009, DEM/TMC
Product Description:
The Digital Elevation Modelling (DEM) version of Southern Africa Streetmaps gives an enhanced 3D-effect to the maps when used on a compatible product (please check with your supplier or Avnic for a list of compatible models). This product includes the full street map data from Southern Africa Streetmaps, combined with elevation shading information and 200m contours.
Product Benefits:
The DEM maps are an excellent blend of Southern Africa Streetmaps and Topo & Rec, optimised for reduced memory requirements whilst offering a unique visual presentation of elevation data. It contains all the street information of the Southern Africa Streetmaps, with the same geographical coverage and comprehensive POI database. DEM is ideal for users who want a visual indication of the topography without requiring all the detail of the Topo and Rec data.
As a result of an improved map complier, the new DEM map is now less than 940MB in size, almost half the previous size of 1.8 GB.
